We took a team photo before the race, but Max and Jesse were stranded on the boat float, so I moved them a little bit closer... (below). Max and Jesse are somewhere down there on the boats. See if you can find them!
This is the dock where we did the boat rotation. It's across the street from the Orcas Yacht Club, and was a great location for a regatta. This was actually only a half mile from where we were staying. Mrs. Brackett arranged for the girls to stay at the "beach house", which was a beautiful home on the water where the team bbq'd for dinner and hung out during the days. On Friday night we had lemon rosemary chicken, prepared by Mrs. Eslick. On Saturday night, Max made us fajitas, and they were good eats.
These are Vanguard 15's, they are very nice boats, supplied by Orcas, Friday Harbor, and North Kitsap. I think the kids enjoyed sailing them a lot more than our FJ's.
It was 35 degrees outside, and overcast, but the water was majestic.
Gavin and Debbie, near the middle of the fleet. In this race, they picked up 6 spots and finished around 4th or 5th place. Gavin and Debbie had 2 first place finishes for the day.
Jordan and Lily in the middle (top), and far right (bottom).
Max and Jesse approach for the rotation. Jordan and Lily, as well as Max and Jesse, were finishing near the back of the fleet in the morning. But by afternoon, had improved and were finishing in the middle of the fleet or better. Just think what we could do if we had these boats to sail in all the time!
Lily and Jordan on one of several approach attempts for their rotation.
The team does a sun dance... and it works!
Sarah, Max, James and Jesse.
